Last spring with went to New York City with the kids. We trekked all over the city, road bikes and climbed rocks in Central Park, ate a ton of good food, did a bunch of touristy things that we hadn’t done before (we purchased the New York Pass and kept very busy with that), and had an amazingly great time. Would we do it again? In a heartbeat!
On our way to New York City, we spent nearly a week in the Poconos at a resort, chilling out. Chilling out on vacation is something our family does NOT do well. We are active vacationers and like to go, go, go. The more sights and things to on vacation that we can squeeze in, the better. I mean, who wants to relax on vacation anyway?
So, even while relaxing in the Poconos, we hiked, swam, and the boys went to play paintball for a day. It was fun, but there wasn’t a ton to do in the area, and that was hard for us. We ended up leaving to go to New York City a day earlier than planned. So… we probably wouldn’t go to the Poconos on a family vacation again, although the boys thought about going back to backpack and play paintball. My daughter and I… we’ll stick to the city.
A few years ago we had another vacation to NYC and other spots out east that we used to visit when we lived in New Jersey: we went crabbing in Seaside Heights, NJ, NYC with kids again, we headed to Six Flags Great Adventure and Safari, Wildwoods, Hershey’s Chocolate World, Washington DC where we saw the monuments at night, the National Zoo and the Smithsonian museums. On the way to our East Coast adventure, we even stopped in Pittsburgh, PA to visit the National Aviary and the Pittsburgh Zoo. We had purchased a zoo pass that year, so we took full advantage of it.
What are your favorite vacation spots?
