    Wilderness Resort Wisconsin Dells

Updated: Aug 31, 2020 · Published: Sep 6, 2013 · This post may contain affiliate links.

Wilderness Resort in Wisconsin Dells is a family fun vacation destination.  Not only is the Wilderness Resort the largest water park resort in the United States, it has indoor and outdoor water parks.  When you stay at the Wilderness Resort, you can visit any of the Wilderness Resort water parks, including a great outdoor area at Glacier Canyon Lodge and indoor/outdoor waterparks at Wilderness on the Lake in addition to waterparks in the New Frontier and Wild West regions of the main resort.  This give you plenty of options for fun, and the ability to try out as many of the water parks as you'd like.

During our recent visit to the Wilderness Resort, our party of five spent a lot of time in both the New Frontier and the Wild West.  Our kids each brought a friend with them, and they all thoroughly enjoyed the water parks and all the indoor attractions.  We had Wild Fun Passes, which provide a single admission to each of several indoor attractions.

Wild Fun Passes are a fantastic addition to a water park vacation at the Wilderness Resort in Wisconsin Dells, especially when traveling with kids.  We were able to divide up our time between the water and the other attractions, which meant no one got bored and everyone had a ton of fun.

Some of the attractions we were able to do with our Wild Fun Passes included Bumper Boats, two separate miniature golf courses, Northern Lights Sky Ropes Course, Haunted Tombstone Town and OK Corral Lazer Tag.  The bumper boats are located in one of the indoor water parks, so they can be enjoyed year-round.

Let me just say, the weather could not have been more perfect for most of our stay.  But, even if it hadn't been, there would have been plenty to do inside of the Wilderness Resort properties to keep our gang more than happy.  On our second afternoon, we spent quite a bit of time outdoors at Lake Wilderness outdoor water park.  The kids had so much fun and weren't ready to go when it was time to leave.  At least that leaves more fun to look forward to next time.

They especially loved the Lily Pad Obstacle walk.  I lost count of how many times they made their way across it.

    Seriously, over and over again.

The Northern Lights Sky Ropes Course was another big winner in our group.  This course has a few levels, and participants are tethered to a rope and harness for safety.  If you have a fear of heights, you'll probably want to pass on this one, but that wasn't something that anyone in our group had to deal with.  They absolutely loved making their way through the ropes course and would have done it again and again if we had time.  The Wild Fun Pass included a one-time admission to the Northern Lights Sky Ropes Course, and that was perfect with the amount of time we had at the resort.

You'll see above, my son was all smiles as he paused to take a break on the Northern Lights Sky Rope Course, as was my daughter when it was her turn to to get geared up.  You can see below that the harnesses used are very safe and sturdy.  Fun is great, but safety first!  The part of the equipment that my daughter is holding in her hands is what is used to attach the harness to the ropes course system, so they are always attached to the course.

While we spent a ton of time in the water parks, it was nice to change out of our swimsuits at the end of the day and play some miniature golf with the kids and their friends.  The two miniature golf courses that we visited with our Wild Fun Passes were fun and engaging for the tweens, teens and even the adult in our group.

If you're looking for a Midwest getaway vacation, Wilderness Resort is an ideal place to go.  If you're a family with teens, you'll feel comfortable letting your teens wander around together and explore the various water parks that the Wilderness has to offer.  There are slides and water park features that are perfect for every age group, whether you are a family with little ones or have no kids at all.  I braved some of the slides on my and had a blast.  The Black Hole in the Wild West water park was extraordinarily fun and I'm sure everyone at the park probably heard me screaming as I came down the slide.  SO much fun!

We're looking forward to going back to the Wilderness Resort in Wisconsin Dells again, maybe sometime in the winter.  For those of you who  live in the Midwest, you know it's great to get away to a water park in the cold of winter when everything around us is frozen and covered with snow.  The Wilderness Resort has a few indoor water parks for you to choose from when the outdoor water parks close down for the winter.  It even has a tropical paradise in the Wild WaterDome.  Wear sunscreen, because you can actually get a tan in the winter under their see-through-roof!  And don't forget the restaurants!  No need to leave the property, because Wilderness Resort has everything you need right there.

That place is awesome! My parents took me and my husband there last year. I was 6 months pregnant so I couldn't go on the water slides but the wave pool was awesome. There candy shop was great too. I want to take our daughter there when she gets older.

One of the things I noticed about the Wilderness is how many areas they have for younger kids... even toddler age. I would have loved to have taken my kids there when they were little. Have fun when you take your daughter there when she gets a bit older! 😉
