These tie dye cupcakes are every bit as delicious as they are adorable! Simple vanilla cupcakes get an infusion of color, baked to perfection, and frosted with homemade buttercream icing. Yum!

For the cupcakes:

For the frosting:

butter
softened to room temperature

powdered sugar

For the cupcakes:
Preheat the oven to 350 F, line a cupcake pan with 12 liners; set aside
Whisk together the flour, baking powder and salt, set aside
In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter and sugar until smooth
Add in the eggs and vanilla and mix well
Add in half the flour mixture, followed by half the milk and repeat until all the flour and milk has been added, mixing well after each addition
Divide the batter evenly between four bowls, and use food coloring to make each a different color
Add a spoonful of each color to each of the cupcake liners, and use a toothpick to gently swirl the batter
Bake in preheated oven for 14-16 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean
For the frosting:
In a stand mixer with the paddle attachment, beat the butter on high speed until light and fluffy; about 3-5 minutes
Add the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, mixing well after each addition
Add the milk and mix well
Divide the frosting into 5 bowls,
Leave one white while you tint the others with food coloring
Fill a piping bag with a scoop of each color
Then pipe on top of cooled cupcakes
Add sprinkles if desired
