Feeling spontaneous? You could do a multitude of things to satisfy your hunger for a good time. You could go to the movies, spend an afternoon exploring the city or you could take a road trip. Road trips are always fun. They let you relax and go on an adventure for a while.

Here are seven ways to make your next road trip even more fun.

When you go on road trips, you’ll probably plug in your iPod and start jamming out to music. Sometimes, however, your music gets old and you need a way to spice up your trip. There are plenty of ways you can do this. Hopefully you’ll read an idea here that you’ll want to try!

    Make Up a Story

You know all those ideas in your head that you can’t seem to get out into the real world? Spin them into a story! When you drive, your mind tends to go on autopilot. You drive and are aware of your surroundings, but your mind is just in a different place. If you’re bored on your drive, start thinking of a fun story! Do you like dramas? Horror? Maybe you have a life experience you would like to turn into a story. Entertain yourself by concocting an awesome one. You never know what you’ll be able to come up with!

Make your next road trip even more fun with these seven tips for how to pass time on a long drive on road trips.

    Listen to Podcasts

Podcasts have become insanely popular in recent years. For those who don’t know, podcasts are comparable to talk radio. But, some podcasts only consist one person. And they can be about almost anything. Whatever subject you can think of, there’s probably a podcast out there that talks about it.

Podcasts are great for the road for a couple of reasons. First, there’s a wealth of fresh content constantly being uploaded on to the Internet. You never have to repeat any podcast if you don’t want to. Secondly, they engage your mind and get you thinking.

    Try New Food

It’s always fun to try new things. And everybody loves food. So, what could be better than trying a new dish? When you’re on the road for a while, you’re inevitably going to get hungry. Instead of pulling over to McDonald’s for the 1,000th time, why don’t you walk on the wild side and try a restaurant you’ve never eaten at before? There are endless amounts of selections when it comes to finding food, especially in a new area.

Doing this will help eliminate the boring aspects of the drive. It also gives you something else to look forward to if you have never traveled along your along your chosen road trip route as you venture through the city/country!

    Play a Trivia Game

This one should only be attempted if you have more than one person in the car. Since some road trips take some time to complete, why not pass the time by clobbering your best friend or spouse in a trivia battle? Have the passenger ask trivia questions and create a little competition between you two. The more the merrier in this scenario, so try this one the next time you jam all your friends into your car.

    Don’t Have a Plan

Most road trips tend to be spontaneous in nature. You either decide at the spur of the moment to take a trip or your friends show up on your doorstep to drag you somewhere. Even then, a destination isn’t set in stone. To change it up a bit, why not have a real spontaneous adventure? Pick a direction and just start driving. There are so many different road trip options to choose from depending on where you live and where you want to go!

Having no real destination can lead to some memorable and unforgettable times. And it takes the boring out of the trip. The next time you get a chance to go on a road trip, simply start driving and don’t look back. You’ll definitely have fun! Just be sure you have enough gas!

    Sing

You may do this one already, but singing is fun anywhere and any place. You know you’ve belted out all the lyrics to that guilty pleasure song before. Why not have some fun and sing along to the beat? Singing makes the road trip better in a multitude of ways.

First, it immediately alleviates boredom. Screaming the words to a hard rock song or hitting the falsetto on the ballad is plain fun. Secondly (and if you’re with a friend or group of friends), singing can be a fantastic bonding experience. There’s nothing better than singing off key with your best group of friends.

    Think

You may not get to this one as much as you need to. Thinking is essential to keeping yourself together. It’s so easy to get lost in the bombardment of work, school, society and life. Rarely, do people stop and just think.

Road trips offer a way for you to work out situations in your life. They allow you to take a look from various perspectives on your experiences. Thinking can turn your life around in the best way imaginable. The open road is a possibility. A possibility for you to gain clarity and to truly relax and simply think.

The next time you take a road trip, go ahead and try one of these tips. One of them is bound to strike your fancy. Not only will they eliminate your boredom, but they also may bring you a step closer to understanding yourself.
