Cabins to Rent in Minocqua Wisconsin Area
Thunderbird Point Resort
Unplug. Getaway. Relax.
We rented this cabin for a week last summer, and let me just say--it was THE most relaxing vacation ever.
There is something to be said when you can take 4 teenagers away to the Northwoods for a week, knowing full well that there will be limited cell service and spotty WiFi, and everyone is okay with it.
Think Back to the Future, but with board games, fire pits, fishing, kayaking and laughter. Lots and lots of laughter. Because what’s the point of stepping back and unwinding if it’s not to have fun?
Cooking it up at our Lake Cabin Rental Outside Minocqua
Believe it or not, sometimes it seems like I don't have enough time to cook as much as I want to. So, one of the things that I wanted to do when we went to the cabin was to try out some new recipes. I did and they were SO good!
I made homemade biscuits and Sausage Gravy from Scratch. The Chili Corn Chip Casserole I cooked up was one of the best camping meals I've ever had, and the Pork Chops with Gravy was amazing! So amazing in fact, that that entire meal was gobbled up before I could even take food photos.
The girls and I also made Scotcheroos--and a bit of a mess along the way. That's half the fun, right?
VRBO Wisconsin Lake Cabins
We headed up North on a Sunday, to the cabin we found on VRBO.
Wisconsin in August means it could be hot or it could be fall in the making. We were greeted with a drizzly cool day with a high temperature of about 58, and a gorgeous lakeside setting that put the cold and the damp to bed. Because no one cared.
We had a fire, roasted marshmallows, watched our five-year young female black lab Marley jump in for a swim off the dock (or wade in from the sandy shoreline) again and again. For the rest of the day.
And week. Because that's how much she loved swimming in that lake.
And then when the kids were worn out from playing truth or dare around the fire (which consisted of who would eat the most burnt marshmallow), we came into the cabin for Apples to Apples and cards.
Cabin Rentals on Wisconsin Lakes Make for Memorable Vacations
In the morning, we woke up ready to do it all over again—starting with an 8:30 swim for Marley, because our energetic dog was ready to take in every last minute of her perfect summer vacation.
Our cabin at Thunderbird Point Resort was quaint. A small space perfect for our party of 6, and all we were looking for and needed for this up North vacation. We weren’t looking for a big lake house (although, don’t get me wrong—we enjoy those too), we were looking for a North Woods retreat.
This Minocqua Cabin Rentals Owner was Personable and Friendly
The onsite cabin owners were so helpful and friendly to us. They kept us fully stocked up on firewood (which the boys in our party couldn't go through fast enough), gave us tips on what fish were biting, and suggested a few area attractions for us to check out.
We were able to have free use of the canoe, kayaks and row boat, and we used them to our full advantage.
Gliding along that lake early in the morning took my breath away. It was so serene. So entirely peaceful.
It's moments like that--little segments of time--when we can really just sit back and appreciate everything that life is. Without all the extra materialistic stuff.
Just the nature. The breathtaking beauty of it all.
Northern Wisconsin Cabins Renting for Summer Fun - Book Now!
This was the charming little cabin that we stayed in, and if you're looking for a cabin rental in Wisconsin, you really don't want to miss out on this one. It's basic, affordable and perfect.
It was all that we needed and more. Two bedrooms, a bathroom, living room and kitchen.
And a lake.
That lake.
When you can get teenagers to forget about their electronics and video games--when that is exactly what they would be doing at home--you know you'd found the perfect vacation spot.
And when those teens stay out on a row boat for hours fishing and come back to shore to clean their fish and build a campfire--you know they are making memories that they will carry with them for a lifetime.
Memories of that summer trip they took to a Northwoods cabin with some friends.
And making memories--and enjoying moments in time--that is what vacations are all about.
You can find more information about the cabin we rented on VRBO, as well as contact information for the owners.
