Craving that classic Sonic Cherry Limeade? This easy, fizzy copycat recipe brings the sweet-tart magic home - no drive-thru required!

This recipe was born out of desperation. I'd moved away from Sonic territory - gasp - and my cravings didn't get the memo. Blame it on pregnancy cravings, hot summers, or just good old-fashioned sugar addiction, but this fizzy little number had a hold on me.
So, like any slightly obsessed food blogger, I figured it out. This copycat Sonic Cherry Limeade hits all the right notes - sweet, tangy, bubbly, and bright - and it's made with just a few things I always have on hand.
This Cherry Limeade is…
- The perfect summer mocktail
- Fizzy, fun, and not too sweet
- Great for kids' parties or grown-up happy hour
- Just 5 minutes from craving to sipping
- A dead ringer for the Sonic classic
Call it a mocktail, call it a virgin cocktail, call it a cherry limeade. It might be a copycat recipe, but its 100% delicious, and we wouldn't have it any other way!
(Now my favorite springtime drink with alcohol is my Strawberry Limeade Rum Punch, but that's another story!)

Key Ingredients & Substitutions
- Maraschino cherry syrup - You can use the syrup from the jar of cherries or grab a bottle at the store. Grenadine also works in a pinch!
- Lime - Freshly squeezed is a must. I like to toss the squeezed lime wedges into the drink for that extra zing.
- Maraschino cherries - One is cute. Two is a celebration. These are my personal favorites.
- Crushed ice - Bonus points if you have that soft pebble ice like the real deal.
- Lemon-lime soda - Sprite, 7UP, or store brand - as long as it bubbles, it'll work.
Want to lighten it up? Use diet soda or swap half with sparkling water.
Going adult? A splash of vodka or rum turns this into a crowd-pleaser real fast.
How to Make It (It's So Easy)
- Pour 1½ teaspoons of cherry syrup into the bottom of a glass.
- Squeeze in half a lime and drop the wedges in for good measure.
- Add a couple of cherries and fill that glass to the brim with crushed ice.
- Top it off with lemon-lime soda.
- Garnish with an extra cherry and a lime slice, if you're feelin' fancy.
Stir gently, sip immediately, and smile like you just rolled out of the Sonic drive-thru.
Helpful Tips
Crushed ice = authenticity. If your fridge doesn't do it, wrap ice cubes in a towel and give 'em a few smacks with a rolling pin. It's worth the trouble.
Don't skimp on the lime. It balances the sweetness beautifully.
Make a pitcher or punch bowl. Hosting a backyard bash? Multiply the ingredients and serve from a big punch bowl with a ladle - it's always a hit.

I was going to stop a couple days ago and get a Sonic Cherry Limeade and didn't for some reason - I don't know why I am still craving one - I think I need to put some maraschino cherries on my grocery list and limes so I will have what I need - oh and some soda I don't usually have much of that in the house. I do believe I was with you when I got my first cherry limeade!

This sounds great. I, too, have a cherry limeade dependency program. There is a sonic only 3 miles from here, but I can't always make it during their happy hour when drinks are half price, so I don't get one very often. Now, I can whip one up whenever I want. Thank you.
