Hot Fudge Sauce recipe with Fruit- Fun with Food for Kids.

Think perfect chocolate dipped strawberries. Chocolate drizzled strawberries--or chocolate covered blueberries.

    strawberries with chocolate sauce

It's all about how to make a delicious dessert with a simple sauce.

Chocolate sauce mind you. There's now way around it.

These are fun treats to make with kids. Or without. Just saying--I could eat these all day every day, with my kids or alone. And not even feel guilty.

What can I say? I guess I have a bit of a sweet tooth. Now and then anyway. But I discovered a healthy way to enjoy chocolate sauce. Now, don't get me wrong... I'm not about to give up ice cream. And to me, these seriously taste like a banana split. Add in some strawberries and whip cream and we're set.

I thought I would share this because I know that many people are looking for healthy{ish} alternatives for their sweet cravings.

    Banana Split Kabobs

For something even more fun, slice up some bananas and add blueberries and strawberries to kabob sticks. Drizzle with hot fudge sauce (recipe below) and serve these up for a super kid-friendly snack that moves as fast as hot cakes!

It is so SO simple. Kabobs make anything look even more appetizing. I don't know why, but they do. Fruit kabobs with dip are a winner. Just ask my kids.

The special ingredient here is my chocolate sauce. Now... here's the trick.... just use a little! Drizzle or dip, whatever your pleasure and indulge your sweet tooth in these yummy kabobs.

What do you do to get your family to eat healthy? Do you have a creative way to get more fruits and veggies onto their plates and into their bellies? I have been trying to get my family to eat more veggies (like extra kale in my Zuppa Toscana) and fruit, but I have to get creative!

    In the Meantime...Make Chocolate Sauce

Now... before you go out to the store and buy your strawberries and bananas, let me give you the ingredients for this amazing chocolate sauce. It is just the same as my Hot Peanut Butter Fudge Sauce, without the peanut butter. And it is so easy to make.

All you are going to need is evaporated milk, sugar, cocoa powder, corn starch, butter and vanilla. For the kabobs, figure three bananas and ½ to ¾ of a quart of strawberries, and a small container of blueberries to make 3 kabobs. If you want to stretch the recipe further, you can slice the strawberries in half, thrown in an extra banana or two and make 6 kabobs. Either drizzle or dip with Hot Fudge Sauce using the recipe below.

The remaining Hot Fudge Sauce can be stored in the refrigerator to be used over the next few weeks for dipping sauce, ice cream, etc. Yum! I hope you enjoy.

    Ingredients

    • 1 cup white sugar
    • 4 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
    • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
    • ¾ cup evaporated milk
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 2 tablespoons butter

    Instructions

    • Combine dry ingredients and mix together until smooth. I used a whisk so I could work out the tiny lumps in the cocoa powder. You could sift the cocoa power instead… but I prefer to just mix it. It comes out super smooth.
    • Heat over medium high heat while stirring. It’s very important to keep an eye on this. When the mixture starts to boil, let it boil (while stirring!) for just two minutes, take off the heat, and then add the vanilla, butter and peanut butter. Pour into a glass jar or other container and store in the refrigerator.
    • {Reminder… when pouring hot chocolate into glass jars, make sure your jar has been warmed up by running hot water over the outside or sitting in a sink with hot water. This will prevent it from breaking.}
